Once considered a delicacy for low-income people, Chestnuts are making a spectacular comeback in Ticino kitchens. Locals are proud of their culinary legacy today, and chestnuts are offered all around the canton in various ways, including marrons glacés, classic roasted chestnut gnocchi, and more.
Every October, the charming town of Ascona hosts a chestnut festival to honor this local gem. Visitors can sample over 2000 kg of these fire-roasted fruits and other chestnut-based treats while enjoying musical entertainment.
