AlpExcursion will lead you in the largest Swiss city of Zurich. The famous tourist destination is lying on the shores of Limmat River, characterized by valuable historical and heritage sights. Being greeted by your local guide at the lobby of the centrally located hotel, your exploration journey will start in this critical financial, commercial and industrial center. Zurich sightseeing offers you a walk through the Old Town overwhelmed with historical monuments, medieval architecture and 13th-century buildings. In the very central part of Zurich, Hauptbahnhof - the major railway station is located, and it is the largest one in Switzerland. The main entrance of the station features a triumphal arch and in front of it the Alfred Escher's monument: a railway pioneer. Stroll through the Bahnhofstrasse, which is considered one of the world’s most expensive and fashionable avenues. All along downtown's main street, the elegant boutiques, shopping centers with famous brands, luxury restaurants, and the Swiss banks are located. Zurich's history is represented in the heart of the city at the Old Town on both sides of the Limmat river. One will admire the row of ancient houses, churches and historic sights on the tiny streets which adorn the hidden corners. The live beats of the Old Town are presented in Niederdorfstrasse. As it is well-known for its bustling nightlife, abundant shops, and beautiful car-free alleyways. The area's main streets are packed to the brim with all kinds of bars and restaurants. Another symbol monument located here is the beautiful Town Hall building (Rathaus). The building features a late Renaissance architectural style with a Baroque ceremonial hall. Besides, it has decorative ceilings and portals characterized with stucco detail. Our walking discovery won't be completed without paying a visit to the Grossmünster (Great Minster). The evangelical church is one of Zurich's four primary churches, all along with St. Peterskirche, the Fraumünster, and the Predigerkirche. Rise to the top of the church’s twin towers to enjoy the splendid panoramic views over the city with Limmat River and Zurich Lake. They are one of the classic landmarks of the city. Unfortunately, the original wooden steeples of the towers were destroyed by fire. However, later, the neo-Gothic tops were added, which displays today. Not far from here, in the middle of Zurich, the remarkable Fraumünster Church with the blue spire is situated. It takes the breath by the stained-glass windows painted by Marc Chagall. After the conclusion of the informative walking tour, AlpExcursion.com advises all the tourists to take a boat trip on Lake Zurich. Sit and admire the splendid sceneries of Zurich with the Swiss Alps in the background. |
