Cattle show Herisau

A fantastic custom that commemorates the end of summer and the arrival of farmers and their cows from the alp is the cattle shows in Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Usually in the fall, the displays draw large crowds who want to witness the most stunning and talented cows. The farmers gather with their relatives in the hall of an inn for the show, criticism, a nd prize distribution in the evening after the animals have returned home to the barn, and the most beautiful animals are given a paper flower wreath placed around their horns. Usually, the evening consists of dancing, singing, fencing, and a simple dinner.
