This guided walking itinerary introduces the history, architecture, and mountain heritage of Zermatt. The tour begins in the village center with time to explore Bahnhofstrasse and the historic Hinterdorf district, known for its preserved wooden chalets and traditional alpine architecture dating from the 16th – 18th centuries. Continuation to St. Mauritius Church and the Mountaineers’ Cemetery, dedicated to the history of Zermatt’s alpine exploration and the mountaineering heritage of the Matterhorn region. The route proceeds to Kirchbrücke, one of Zermatt’s iconic photospots, offering panoramic views of the Matterhorn. The itinerary continues along the AHV Trail toward Winkelmatten, passing residential quarters, open views toward the surrounding peaks and the historic Gornergrat Railway bridge.
